Andy began his career at 16 as a trainee linesman in the Feilding Post Office line depot in 1976. Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, he quickly advanced through the ranks, moving into design and management positions.

In 2005, leveraging his extensive industry experience, Andy founded Telcospec to provide innovative and superior services in the utilities sector. Under his leadership, the company earned a reputation for quality, reliability, and customer-centric solutions.

As Andy transitions out of the business, he leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a thriving company built on his vision and values.

Iain's passion for telecommunications is a family legacy, inspired by his grandfather's pioneering work with the Post Office / Telecom eras, including overseeing one of New Zealand's first fibre optic installations.

With 25 years of experience in large-scale projects and complex work environments, Iain brings a wealth of expertise to every endeavor. His forward-thinking approach and unwavering commitment have propelled him to the role of General Manager at Telcospec.

Len Carney

Len's telecommunications career began with the New Zealand Post Office in 1985. After completing his apprenticeship and gaining experience as a Telecommunications Field Technician, he moved to the UK in 1991. There, he spent 21 years in the sector, establishing his own contracting company and developing commercial expertise.

Len specialized in copper and fibre networks, focusing on network construction, maintenance, testing, and project management. Returning to New Zealand in 2012, he joined Telcospec, bringing over two decades of experience.

As Contracts Manager, Len's leadership ensures effective team collaboration and successful project outcomes that consistently meet client needs.

Jon Bryant

Jon joined Telcospec in 2010 as a trainee and quickly advanced from junior team member to a skilled fibre optic technician, gaining expertise in splicing, testing, and cable fault restoration across New Zealand.

By 2016, he took on a senior role, staying hands-on in training staff and enhancing technical resources. Now part of the Telcospec management team, Jon excels in staff and contract management, building strong client and team relationships.

Jon emphasizes effective communication, transparency, and trust, ensuring every project deliverable reflects a deep understanding of client needs and a commitment to enduring partnerships.

Matt McRae

Matt brings over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, beginning his career in 2005 as a fibre technician in Wellington. Since then, he’s built a broad skill set across design, pricing, and management, while never losing his passion for the hands-on side of building and maintaining fibre networks.

His career has taken him from small local companies to large network providers, including five years in Western Australia’s oil and gas/mining sector, where he gained invaluable experience and perspective.

In 2024 Matt joined Telcospec as a project manager and designer, combining his passion for practical hands-on work with his strengths in design and project planning. He values the opportunity to learn from those around him while passing on his own knowledge and is a key part of the Telcospec team and the projects he leads.

Sarah excels at building rapport and trust with people at all levels, both within the company and with external clients. Her exceptional interpersonal skills foster strong, lasting relationships, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective communication.

Her expertise extends to managing Health and Safety, where she implements rigorous standards to ensure a safe working environment. Additionally, Sarah is dedicated to enhancing the business's reputation by consistently delivering high-quality client service and support, reinforcing the company's commitment to excellence and reliability.

Brenden started at Telcospec in 2016 as a technician and now brings his expertise to the role of Operations Supervisor.

Known for his approachable, hands-on style, Brenden excels in client communication, team collaboration, and his ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver projects efficiently.

Alongside his operational duties, Brenden plays an active role on the Health and Safety Committee, driving initiatives that help create a safe and supportive work environment for everyone. His commitment to both team wellbeing and workplace safety makes him an integral part of Telcospecs ongoing success.

Mitch joined Telcospec in 2013 as a technician and has since grown into his role as Operations Supervisor. Over the years, he has built extensive experience across both technical and operational areas, giving him a strong understanding of the industry from the ground up.

As a highly skilled fibre technician, Mitch remains hands-on with a wide range of fibre projects. He plays a key role in guiding Telcospecs fibre work, drawing on his practical experience to support the team and deliver quality outcomes on the ground.

Splitting his time between the office and on the road throughout New Zealand, Mitch ensures projects run smoothly while supporting both clients and colleagues. Known for his dedication, problem-solving skills, and approachable nature, he is a trusted leader and an invaluable part of the Telcospec team.

Steve Simmons
Project Manager and Designer

Steve began his telecommunications career in 1978 as a 16-year-old Post Office Trainee Lineman. By the end of 1981, he had qualified as an Advanced Telecommunications Technician and went on to gain extensive experience across all facets of the telco industry until mid-1994.

After a decade away from the industry - Steve returned to telecoms in early 2004 as a copper cable faultman. In 2007, he transitioned into network design on the Chorus network and has since worked as both a designer and project manager on a wide range of projects, from small cable overlays to large-scale roadworks and new network builds.

Steve joined Telcospec in October 2024 as a Project Manager and brings his wealth of industry experience to all aspects of the work we do.
